Lab Access for Classes
Lab Access for Classes
Access to each instructional lab will be granted during each academic quarter based on the following considerations:
SAFETY - To be granted access to any instructional lab you must send an email to the class instructor and CA that you have read and understood the Basic Lab Safety training material HERE and have completed the Quiz.
Intro to Soldering training and the Quiz Link .
For some classes, you will be given access based on your enrollment in the class BUT you will have to send an email to the Instructional Labs Manager to certify that you have read and understand the Basic Lab Safety training material. The email should contain -
Your name
A few sentences explaining a point from the presentation or asking a point of clarification to demonstrate that you understand the material
Your SUID number
Failure to do this will result in your lab access being revoked (until you complete this step).
ENROLLMENT - You must to be actively enrolled in the course(s) using the lab for which you are requesting access. This also means that when the course is over your access will automatically expire. This also means that if you drop the class your access will be revoked.
BUDDY AREAS - If a lab is marked as a “BUDDY AREA” you MUST have a “lab buddy’ with you whenever you are working in that lab. This means that if you need to leave the lab area for whatever reason, your "lab buddy" MAY NOT continue to work. This means that you need to wait for your "lab buddy" to arrive before starting your work. In general it is NOT acceptable to ”just hang out and work on your computer" in a BUDDY AREA. Please see the Basic Lab Safety material for details. Why is this such a BIG DEAL? Because nobody plans an accident! That's not how it goes. We do not want to find anyone in trouble in a lab so please do your part to have a "lab buddy" with you and prop the lab door open so, in the unlikely case something goes wrong, we will know and be able to help!
STAFF AGREEMENT - Several of our labs are open for use ONLY when teaching staff are present. If you are enrolled in a course where this is the case, please respect this rule! I really, REALLY DO NOT want to have to revoke your lab privileges because of something like this.
As the Lab Manager my first responsibility is to facilitate and support students’ SAFE use of the lab facilities. I take this seriously. Please do your part to help us maintain our culture of safety in the EE Department.
PLEASE NOTE: Instructional lab space access is DIFFERENT than building access. Being granted lab access DOES NOT automatically give you Packard building access. Packard building access is discussed HERE.
